Intercare Somerset West is a new 34-bed physical rehabilitation hospital at Vergelegen Plein Shopping Centre in Somerset West is nearing completion and is set to open in October 2026.
Although entering a hospital through a shopping centre may seem unusual, the facility has been thoughtfully designed with a clear purpose: to help patients regain as much independence as possible before they return home.
The newly built hospital combines comfortable accommodations with specialised rehabilitation facilities and therapy spaces. One of the standout features is a temperature-controlled hydrotherapy pool, where eligible patients will receive supervised therapy as part of their individualised rehabilitation programs.
Patient accommodations have been designed with both recovery and accessibility in mind. The hospital offers a mix of four-bed, two-bed, and private single rooms, each equipped with its own bathroom and shower. For patients who require additional space or support, larger assisted bathrooms are available.
Another notable feature is the scenic view across the bay from the patient areas and rooms, creating a pleasant environment for patients during their recovery. Some rooms include additional family-friendly features, such as a couch in the two-bed family-style room.
Overall, this new facility reflects Intercare’s commitment to creating a rehabilitation environment that supports patients not only during treatment but also as they work towards greater confidence, independence, and a return to life at home.
