  • Wound on the skin caused by pressure
  • Most commonly affects the boney points
  • Symptoms may include redness and pain developing into blisters or sores
  • Caused by decreased oxygen to the tissue most commonly in persons with conditions such as diabetes, spinal cord injury, dementia, impaired mobility or sedation
  • Cannot be spread from person to person
  • Affects males and females
  • Can occur at any age but more common in the elderly
  • May be mild to severe
  • May be life threatening
