Leprosy, lepromatous

  • Bacterial infection affecting nervous system
  • Symptoms may include loss of sensation, skin rash, skin ulcer, loss of fingers and toes, and facial deformity in late stages
  • May be spread through breathing infected air, contact with infected soil, through insects or may be unknown
  • Affects males and females but more common in males
  • Can occur at any age but more common in adults
  • May be mild to severe and debilitating

FOR LONG TERM TREATMENT

  • Make sure others do not touch your secretions or used tissues to avoid spreading the infection
  • Wash hands regularly
  • Avoid kissing others
