Inflammation of the blood vessels
May affect many areas such as the skin, joints, kidneys and digestive system
Symptoms may include a purplish rash, abdominal pain and joint pain and swelling
Cause unknown
Cannot be spread from person to person
Affects males and females but more common in males
Can occur at any age but more common in school age children
Usually mild and resolves on its own
May become life threatening if complications such as kidney failure develop
