Inflammatory disorder
Can affect any organ in the body but most commonly affects lungs and lymph nodes
Symptoms may include swollen lymph nodes, cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, eye pain and joint pain
Cause unknown
Cannot be spread from person to person
Affects males and females but more common in males
Can occur at any age
May be mild without symptoms to severe and life threatening
Treatments
Eat a healthy diet
Exercise regularly
FOR COUGH
Increase fluids
Suck on cough drops or hard candy
Use a cool air humidifier in room
Avoid lung irritants such as smoke or household cleaners
Over-the-counter cough medicine (refer to manufacturer’s recommendations for dosage)
Guaifenesin
Dextromethorphan
FOR FEVER
Apply cool cloth to forehead or armpits
Drink plenty of fluids (especially water)
Avoid alcohol, tea and coffee as these drinks can cause slight dehydration
Over-the-counter medicine (refer to manufacturer’s recommendations for dosage):
Acetaminophen
Ibuprofen
Aspirin (Do not give to children or adolescents)

Apply hot or cold packs to the area
