Plantar fasciitis

  • Inflammation in the sole of the foot
  • Symptoms may include sharp pain extending from the ball to the heel of the foot resulting in limping
  • Caused by repeated tears in the foot tissue
  • Cannot be spread from person to person
  • Affects males and females but more common in females
  • Can occur at any age but more common in adults
  • May be mild to severe
  • Progressive pain can limit activity

  • Perform stretches for the arch of your foot regularly
  • Wear shoes with good arch support or add arch support to your shoes
  • Limit high-impact activities and high miles

 

FOR PAIN

  • Apply hot or cold packs to the area
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Distraction
  • Over-the-counter medicine (refer to manufacturer’s recommendations for dosage):
    • Acetaminophen
    • Ibuprofen
