Otomycosis

  • Fungal infection affecting the outer ear canal
  • Symptoms may include ear pain, fullness and itching, fever and ear discharge
  • Associated with factors like swimming, injury to ear or excessive cleaning
  • Cannot be spread from person to person
  • Affects males and females
  • Can occur at any age
  • May be mild to severe

Do not use cotton swabs, ear candles or other home remedies to clean your ears.

 

FOR PAIN

  • Apply hot or cold packs to the area
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Distraction
  • Over-the-counter medicine (refer to manufacturer’s recommendations for dosage):
    • Acetaminophen
    • Ibuprofen
