Condition in which airflow is interrupted many times during sleep
Symptoms may include snoring and waking up by choking or gasping, tiredness, sleeplessness and daytime sleepiness
Cause may be due to heredity, being overweight, alcohol consumption and enlarged tongue or tonsils
Cannot be spread from person to person
Affects males and females but more common in males
Can occur at any age but more common in older adults
May be mild to severe
