  • Can occur at any age but most common in older adults with diabetes
  • May be mild to severe

  • Avoid smoking and alcohol
  • Maintain a healthy diet
  • Exercise regularly
  • Keep a healthy weight
  • Pay very close attention to your blood sugar levels to keep them under control

  • Apply hot or cold packs to the area
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Distraction
  • Over-the-counter medicine (refer to manufacturer’s recommendations for dosage):
    • Acetaminophen
    • Ibuprofen
