Morton neuroma

  • Thickening of nerve in the foot
  • Symptoms may include toe numbness with occasional sharp and burning pain
  • Cause may be due to repetitive and excessive pressure from jogging or improper shoes
  • Cannot be spread from person to person
  • Affects males and females but more common in females and athletes
  • Can occur at any age but more common in adolescents to middle age adults
  • May be mild to severe requiring surgery

  • Wear comfortable, well fitted shoes and avoid tight or high heeled shoes
  • Rest your feet when possible
  • Decrease high impact activities until feet have healed

 

FOR PAIN

  • Apply hot or cold packs to the area
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Distraction
  • Over-the-counter medicine (refer to manufacturer’s recommendations for dosage):
    • Acetaminophen
    • Ibuprofen
