Glomerulonephritis, acute

  • Inflammation of the kidneys
  • Symptoms may occur suddenly and include bloody or dark colored urine, swelling in the legs and arms and high blood pressure
  • Cause often unknown but may be due to bacterial or viral infections
  • Cause may also be due to some autoimmune diseases, high blood pressure or diabetic kidney disease
  • Cannot be spread from person to person
  • Affects males and females but more common in males
  • Can occur at any age but more common in school age children
  • May be mild with few symptoms to severe and life threatening

  • Decrease your salt intake
  • Decrease your protein and potassium intake
