Symptoms may occur suddenly and include bloody or dark colored urine, swelling in the legs and arms and high blood pressure
Cause often unknown but may be due to bacterial or viral infections

Cannot be spread from person to person
Affects males and females but more common in males
Can occur at any age but more common in school age children
