Blood clot in a vein most often affecting the legs
Symptoms may include pain and swelling over the affected area
Cause may be due to injury of the blood vessel, immobility or sedentary lifestyle or can be related to pregnancy
Cannot be spread from person to person
Affects males and females but more common in females
Can occur at any age
May be mild without symptoms to severe and life threatening if the clot moves to the lungs
