Corn and callus

  • Areas of the skin that becomes thickened
  • Most often affects the feet and hands
  • Symptoms may include an area of thick and hard skin with pain or tenderness
  • Caused by increased pressure and/or friction in a particular area
  • Cannot be spread from person to person
  • Affects males and females but more common in athletes and manual laborers
  • Can occur at any age but more common in older adults
  • May be mild to severe due to complications and lack of treatment

GENERAL THERAPY

  • Rest of foot
  • Proper fitting shoes
  • Protective pads where callus occur
  • Use skin creams to keep skin soft
  • Weight loss can reduce occurrence of corns
  • Use of lamb’s wool or toe spacer
