Inflammation of the white of the eye due to a bacterial infection
Symptoms may include swelling and redness of the eye and eye discharge
Spread by contact with infected person or contaminated objects or water
Can be highly contagious depending on the type of bacteria

Keep children away from school or daycare facilities
Children can be contagious for several days and sometimes up to a week
Keep your hands away from your eyes
Wash hands frequently
Apply warm compress to eyes
When cleaning eye, wipe from inside to outside
Avoid wearing contacts until infection is cured
Avoid wearing eye makeup
Do not share eye makeup
Do not share contact lens equipment, containers and solutions
Throw away any old makeup
Do not share towels, linens or pillows
Wear eye protection when in wind, heat, cold or around chemicals
SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IF
You have decreased vision
Blurred vision develops
You have eye pain that last for more than 24 hours or increases in severity
Sensitivity to light develops
