Cervicitis

  • Inflammation of the cervix
  • Affects the vagina and cervix
  • Symptoms may include vaginal discharge, pain during sexual intercourse and bleeding after sexual intercourse
  • Cause may be due to a bacterial, viral or yeast infection or may be the result of injury, radiation or cancer
  • Spread by sexual contact with infected person
  • Infection may spread to the child from the mother during pregnancy or labor
  • Affects females only but more common in younger females with multiple sex partners or history of sexually transmitted disease
  • Can occur at any age
  • May be mild to severe depending on the cause
  • Not life threatening

 

Avoid sexual intercourse.
