Cataract

  • Cloudiness of the lens in the eye
  • Symptoms may include blurry or double vision and an increase in glare with vision
  • Cause most often due to the aging process, exposure to sunlight or nutritional factors
  • Cause may also be due to factors occurring before birth such as low blood sugar, infection, trauma or an inherited disorder such as Down syndrome
  • Cannot be spread from person to person
  • Affects males and females
  • Can occur at any age but more common in older adults
  • May be mild to severe
  • Can result in blindness if left untreated
  • Not life threatening but can greatly affect quality of life

 

To aid in seeing: use a magnifying glass, view large print on the computer and use appliances with large numbers

Use brighter and more lighting in your home

Wear sunglasses

Wear the most up-to-date prescription in your glasses or contact lenses

Decrease your night driving
