Bell palsy

  • Disorder that affects the nerves in the face
  • Symptoms may include paralysis, weakness and eyelid drooping of one side of the face
  • Cause unknown but may be due to infection, weakened immune system or heredity

  • Affects males and females
  • Can occur at any age but more common between adolescence and middle age adults
  • May be mild to severe with long-term nerve damage
  • Not life threatening

FOR DIFFICULTY CLOSING YOUR EYE

  • Open and close your eye with your finger often to keep moist
  • Use protective eye wear (glasses or goggles) to prevent dust from getting into your eye
  • Use over-the-counter eye drops containing:
    • methylcellulose
